Introduction
This page provides a privacy statement detailing how Athena-Project handles your information and our compliance to GDPR.
Who are we?
Athena-Project is the organization that is running the site Athena-Project and all connected sites; Pigasos-Project.
Athena-Project is located in Athens Greece. The server we use is located in the UK.
Pigasos is the responsible person for the protection of personal information for Athena-Project and can be reached via PM (admin) or via our contact page.
How we use your information
Athena-Project stores your information, which you have supplied or which Athena-Project needs for the correct operation of the site in a database. This database is only used by Athena-Project to keep the site operational. The contents of that database is not shared with any third party.
Athena-Project uses your account information to ensure that you can log in to those parts of the Athena-Project network that require a login and to tailor functionality based on your account. This is accomplished by using server sessions that have a short lifetime (20 minutes). Athena-Project also stores cookies on your local machine to keep you logged in for longer periods of time (if you have enabled cookies). These cookies will store the required information needed to automatically log you into any part of Athena-Project when needed. The lifetime of the cookie is indefinite and requires deletion from within your browser in order to remove the information stored in the cookie.
The cookie is also used by Google to store tracking information (see ‘Tracking’ section).
We use cookies for subscribing popup 2 times per visit in Shares/VIP Shares for 1 month.

The information we use
In our database, we store the following personal and related information about registered users, needed for the operation of the site:
Next to the above, there is additional information you can enter in your profile on the Athena Project dashboard. This information is not needed for the correct operation of the site. It is your own responsibility to manage the contents of that information. You have full access to it and can choose to change or delete it.
If deleting your account is not possible or you can’t find it, please contact our administrator from the contact page
At the shared section and the Athena-Project home page you also have the option, as a registered user, to configure several options on the shared and Athena-Project home page. The selections you make are stored but are not used for anything else than letting the site behave according to your selections.
Any supplied information is only used to enable the correct operation of the site. No data analytics is performed, beyond the standard functionality provided by our forum software, which is needed for correct operation (counts of: threads, posts, PMs, Thumbs ups). Also when you are visiting the Athena-Project forums, the current thread you are visiting is determined. The historic information of the threads you have visited is not logged.
IP addresses of all those who visit Athena-Project are temporarily stored for 20 minutes to determine the total visitor count and what page is being visited. Next to that IP addresses are also stored by our server to determine the connections that are made with the server for the sole purpose of error detection and hacks/attacks. Access information is stored for up to 3 weeks and site and server error information for up to 10 weeks.
All the above-mentioned information that is needed for the correct operation of the site is kept in the database indefinitely unless it has been requested to be removed as mentioned below in the ‘Data removal’ section (note that only a full removal is possible, not a selective removal).
Types of Data we collect
Your personal details as required to complete your orders
In order to fulfill your purchase, we require your personal and contact details (Name(s), Email Address, Phone Numbers) and your Postal Address (for delivery and billing purposes). As outlined above, this information is only ever used by ourselves or shared with a third party for the specific purpose of providing you with your purchased goods or processing returns of those goods.
Tracking
Athena-Project uses Google Analytics, which enables the possibility for Athena-Project to track your activity on the sites for the purpose of site analytics. GDPR compliance information of Google can be found here.
Athena-Project also uses embedded YouTube streams, which also fall under Google’s GDPR statement.
You can opt-out of the data collected by Google for interest-based advertising by using the NAI or DAA opt-outs (or EDAA for EU).
Athena-Project does not track you when you leave Athena-Project. However, Google might and advertisers on Athena-Project might also track you when you click on their banner or advertising link.
Adsense
This cookie has to do with the appearance of ads on the website, for which the owner can earn some revenue.
Public Tracking
Athena Project used 3rd party live widget on all pages (on footer) “they use the widget: FLAG COUNTER” in order
to share with you the best experience of traffic in the website and visitors per day / month.
INFORMATION COLLECTED BY A FLAG COUNTER
A Flag Counter displays information about the countries and/or regions that have viewed a particular counter publicly, as is its purpose.
Our counter service is a simple image. When an image loads from our server, the visitor’s web browser automatically provides us with certain information including the visitor’s IP address, the URL of the referring page (where the image was placed), and the user-agent string of the visitor (which ordinarily contains the type and version of a visitor’s web browser and operating system). However, the information we log is limited.
When a Flag Counter image is loaded, our service queries a third-party company’s database which is locally hosted on our servers (no information is transmitted to the third-party company. Our service does not use GPS nor do we request or have access to a visitor’s precise location). This allows us to determine the country and/or region most likely associated with a particular visitor’s IP address, at which time that country and/or region is added as a visit to the counter.
To prevent a returning visitor from repeatedly adding to a counter’s statistics, a combination of the visitor’s IP address and the particular counter’s username is converted to an encrypted hash (which we cannot reverse), and then the hash itself is placed into a filter (for up to seven days after which it is erased). This method allows our counters to operate without the use of cookies.
IP addresses of a counter’s visitors are not logged or otherwise associated with a particular visit.
Counters provided as part of our free service:
Free counters do not log any additional information. These counters only add information to a tally of the visitor counts we have associated with a particular country/region and/or date.
We do not build profiles on a counter’s visitors nor do we attempt to track or associate visitors from one counter to another. The Flag Counter image does not use cookies. Adding the counter to your website will not cause any cookies or advertising on your website itself.
To prevent recording a potential leakage of personal information from third-party sites, query strings are automatically stripped from a referring page URL.
Live Chat Plugin
Athena-Project is using the live chat plugin. The live chat plugin is GDPR compliant. The following is the statement of live chat plugin on this:
The live chat plugin does not access any personal information, such as the name, email, or cookie information, of forum members. And the Plugin never collects any sensitive information, such as Tax ID numbers, banking or credit card information, or health information.
In some cases, IPs have been sent through the live chat Plugin, and the IPs were used for spam and inappropriate content detection. We are not storing any IP address information. We are now using alternative tools to detect spam and inappropriate posts, and no longer have any need for IPs.
As well as IP address, the live chat Plugin will also not be passing any email address between the live chat plugin server and the plugin when the user login or sign up to your forum.
Data removal
According to GDPR you can request for your Personal Identifiable data to be removed. This will result in the following:
Note that this action cannot be undone.
You must request account deletion by PM, so it is possible for us to uniquely determine that it is actually you asking for this or you should use the same email address in contacting us as we have on record for your account.
If you have lost or forgotten your login information, you can request it by using the same e-mail address associated with your account.
If you cannot do either of these, it is not possible to determine that you are the owner of the account and we cannot delete it.
Requests to remove posts and or PMs will be honored to the extent we can honor it. This means that posts can be deleted, but posts of others in which (part of) your posts are quoted will not.
Your PMs will be deleted.
This is a manual process where several database queries are executed to accomplish this. It might take some time before this process is finalized.
Note that data is not immediately removed from backups. Athena-Project makes a backup for every day of the week. This means that after one week, the backup of one week ago is overwritten. As a result your information is removed from backups one week after the actual deletion.
Access to the information we store
GDPR entitles you to receive the information we have on you. Almost all of this information is already accessible by you by visiting your profile page on the Athena-Project site, so Athena-Project provides no means to send you that information.
The only additional information that you will not have access to is your IP address, which you usually know, and your PayPal email address in case you made a donation, which you should definitely know yourself. You can request to receive an overview of the IP addresses and/or your donation information, by sending a message, as mentioned in the ‘Who are we?’ section.
Note that in order to determine that we send the information to the right person you must send a PM from your user account or you should use the same e-mail address in contacting us as we have on record for your account.
Security
Athena-Project takes every precaution to make sure your data is secure. All the software that is being used, including the Operating System on our server is updated on a very regular basis (at least once a week). Furthermore, protections are in place to secure our software, the server, and access to that server.
Complaints
If you have a complaint related to how Athena-Project treats your privacy on any of the Athena-Project sites and Athena-Project cannot resolve it to your satisfaction, we would like to make you aware that you can file a complaint with your national authority responsible for privacy. As Athena-Project is located in Athens Greece , you can also file your complaint with:
